Elijah Gowin
A Puffin grant enabled photographer Elijah Gowin to exhibit a series of photographs at the Danville Museum of Fine Art and History in Danville, VA. His color photographs, taken in the late 1990’s, are part of a documentary series about the self-taught Alabama folk artist Lonnie Holley and his fight to keep his land and art from being destroyed by the city or Birmingham. Never before exhibited, these photographs testify to the artistic spirit of Lonnie Holley and his voice as an African- American artist.
